2013-14 Cruises

October  2013- Government Island

Government Island

It was spooky watching so many boats show
up this year to Government Island East Dock!
We had the largest cruise turnout in recent
memory: 13 boats and 25 people in all with
many prospective new members:
Moonshadow, Cambria, Ranidan, Julia Max,
Conch, Hawksbill, Hokuloa, Sequoia, Rowena
(guests Ray and Alicia), Carolmarie (guests
Terry and Charing), On a Whim (guests Rusty,
Taunya, and 3 children), Sangria (guest Cliff),
and Penelope (former members Peter and
Susan).
With so many participants, you can only
imagine the number of great pot-luck dishes
served Saturday night. David Mangan brought
a meatloaf monster foot complete with almond
slice toenails and ketchup blood. It tasted
ghoulishly good. Costumed partyers dressed
as pirates and gypsy with swords, eye-patch,diamond cross, earrings, wig, and makeup.
Terry from Carolmarie won for the best
individual adult costume, Ray and Alicia from
Rowena (below) were the best dressed couple.
Annika, the oldest daughter from On a Whim
came dressed in a gas mask and worn out
ripped clothing topped by her life
jacket. Great kid’s costume!The pumpkins
were so difficult to judge that we asked Fiona and
Linnea (the 2 younger children) to help out. They decided that
David Mangan’s witch and auldron (below)was best followed by2 pumpkins designed by
Alicia: s/v Rowena in a lightning storm at sea
and a haunted house complete with smoke in
the chimney and bats flying around. (See photo
page 10). Honorable mention went to Sarah’s
carving of a skull.
A full moon rounded out the beautiful evening
spent around the heaters and fireplace on the
dock. The children roasted marshmallows for
s’mores (see photo, page 7) while the adults
told tales of the sea.

Thanksgiving cruise

September 2013 – Gilbert River

At the docks

The Gilbert River Cruise started Friday, September 20, for Hokuloa as a warm sunny day. By 3:20 pm. rain lightly sprinkled from theheavens. Dave Mangan aboard Hawksbill arrived before 8 p.m. and ate his dinner aboard Hokuloa.  Dave explored the inlets around Gilbert River during the morning The crowd, Cambria, Moonshadow and Tarani arrived mid-afternoon while Perserverance, captained by Rudy Marchese arrived at dinnertime. The theme of the potluck dinner was Mexican and the flavors were true, such as ceviche, spicy grilled chicken pieces, quesadillas, Mexican lasagna, and a vegetarian casserole. A Berry Betty was offered by Dena Seabrook of Tarani.
